Vacuum cleaners in Lebanon: how to choose (2026 guide)
Beirut is a dusty city. Construction on every second street, sand in the wind every spring, windows open eight months a year, and floors that are mostly marble, tile and parquet with rugs on top. A vacuum cleaner here works harder than in any European flat, and it does so on an electricity supply that cuts daily and, for many homes, on a 5 amp generator line. Most vacuum cleaners sold in Lebanon are chosen by a watt figure printed on the box. This guide explains why that number is the wrong one, and what to look at instead. Wakim Group has sold and serviced Miele in Lebanon since 1981; we know which machines come back and which do not.

1. Watts are not suction. Read this before you read any box in Lebanon
In Lebanon a vacuum cleaner is sold on one number, the watts printed on the box, and the belief that 2,200 W cleans better than 1,800 W, which cleans better than 900 W. It is the most expensive misunderstanding in the appliance market, so here is the plain version.
Watts measure how much electricity the motor pulls from the wall. Nothing else. Suction is what arrives at the floor, and between the motor and the floor sit the airways, the hose, the bag or container, the filters and the floorhead. A motor that pulls 2,000 W through leaky joints, a narrow hose, a cheap paper bag and a plastic nozzle that lifts off the tile wastes most of that power as heat and noise before any of it reaches the dirt. A motor that pulls 890 W through sealed, flow-optimised airways, a bag with 3D flow guides and a floorhead with a metal soleplate that stays flat on the floor delivers more of its power where it is needed, and picks up more. Think of a straw: a bigger pump on a straw full of holes moves less water than a smaller pump on a sealed one.
This is not a Miele opinion. Since 2017 the European Union has not allowed vacuum cleaners above 900 W to be sold, because its own testing found no link between motor watts and cleaning results, only between watts and the electricity bill. The 2,000 and 2,200 W machines on the shelves in Lebanon are the versions Europe no longer permits. Cleaning performance is measured instead by a standard test, IEC 62885-2, which weighs how much dust a machine actually removes from carpet and hard floor and how much of it stays inside the machine. Miele publishes its results under that standard; most 2,000 W boxes publish only the watts, because the watts are the only number they have.
In Lebanon the watt figure matters a second time, and this time it matters against you. A 2,000 W vacuum draws about 9 amps at 220 V and trips a 5 amp generator subscription the moment it starts. An 890 W Miele draws about 4 amps and runs on a 5 amp line with the lights on. So the high watt number you were told to look for is the number that stops the machine from switching on during the cut. Model by model amps for every appliance we sell are on our generator and solar page.
2. Corded or cordless: the power cut decides
A cordless vacuum does not care whether the power is on. A Miele Triflex HX2 runs up to 60 minutes on a charge, with a removable battery you can swap for a second one, and it charges from any socket, in any mode, on a 5 amp line, during state hours or from a small solar system. For a first apartment in Beirut, a cordless 3in1 is the right first vacuum, and the Triflex is the one to buy. It cleans the floor, converts to a handheld for the sofa, the car and the shelves, and lives on a wall mount by the door, in obsidian black with rose gold on the HX2, built to be seen rather than hidden in a cupboard. The patented 3in1 design rebuilds in seconds: motor at the top for reach under the bed, motor at the bottom for a self-standing machine you park mid-room. Suction is corded-class, measured, not advertised. And it is a Miele, made in Germany, which means a swappable battery you buy here in Beirut when the first one tires, not a machine that dies with it. If you are furnishing your first place, this is the one appliance where the showroom name on the box will still be true in ten years. A corded cylinder vacuum still wins for a large home, for carpets, for stairs and for anyone who wants the biggest dust capacity and the lowest running cost; a bag costs about $5 and lasts around three months. Many of our customers own one of each.
3. Miele Triflex HX2 vs Dyson V15 Detect: the Beirut comparison
The cordless question in Lebanon today is one question: Triflex or Dyson. Here are the two top models side by side, on published specifications only. Dyson figures are from Dyson's own product page for the V15 Detect Absolute; Miele figures are from the Triflex HX2 Cat and Dog page on this site.
| Miele Triflex HX2 Cat and Dog | Dyson V15 Detect Absolute | |
|---|---|---|
| Run time | up to 60 minutes; 30 in medium, 14 in boost | up to 60 minutes (mode not stated) |
| Battery | removable 25.2 V Li-Ion, spare battery doubles runtime, charges in any mode or on the wall mount | click-in 7-cell Li-Ion, extra batteries sold, 4.5 hour charge |
| Suction | Miele's most powerful vacuum, benchmarked to a corded Miele under IEC 62885-2 | 220 air watts in the specifications, 230 in boost |
| Filtration | HEPA Lifetime, 99.999 percent, maintenance free | whole-machine HEPA, 99.97 percent of particles to 0.1 micron |
| Filter care | none for the life of the machine | the display reminds you to clean the filter about once a month |
| Build | patented 3in1: motor at the top for reach, motor at the bottom to stand on its own, handheld in a click; made in Germany | stick with the motor at the handle |
| Pet hair | ElectroCompact powered hand brush included | dust detect technology counts particles 15,000 times a second |
| Warranty | 2 years, extendable to 7, from the company that sold it | 2 years |
| Service in Lebanon | Wakim Group, Saifi, Beirut: Miele-trained technicians, batteries, brushes and filters in stock | ask the seller who repairs it in Lebanon and whether a second battery is stocked here |
Buy the Dyson and you get a screen that shows you the dust. Buy the Triflex and you get a filter you never clean, a battery sold in Beirut, a body made in Germany, and a machine that stands up by itself while you answer the door. The dust is the same. What happens in year six is not. Dyson built a vacuum that counts dust. Miele built one that lasts twenty years. In a city that produces this much dust, we know which number we would rather watch.
4. Floors in Lebanon: marble, tile, parquet, and the rug on top
Hard floors need a floorhead that glides and does not scratch. The AllTeQ floorhead has a metal soleplate, rubberised rollers and retractable bristles, so one head does the marble corridor and the carpet in the living room. For parquet and any floor that scratches, the Parquet Twister brush has soft natural bristles and a double swivel joint for skirting and under furniture. On cordless Triflex models the MultiFloor XXL electrobrush detects the floor type and adjusts itself, which is why one pass over a tile floor and the rug on it needs no button. For pet hair, the TurboTeQ brush on a cylinder vacuum or the ElectroCompact hand brush that comes with the Triflex HX2 Cat and Dog.
5. Dust, allergies and what leaves the machine
The dust in a Beirut home is fine, mineral, and constant. What matters is what comes out of the exhaust. Miele cylinder vacuums keep 99.99 percent of dust inside; the Blizzard CX1 and Triflex HX2 carry a lifetime HEPA filter at 99.999 percent, maintenance free, and the Guard series takes an optional HEPA 13 exhaust filter that traps 99.95 percent of viruses, germs and particles for allergy sufferers. Bagged models change the bag touch-free: the HyClose collar seals itself as you pull it out, so the dust you spent an hour collecting does not go back into the air in the kitchen. Bagless models empty with one click over the bin, with a self-cleaning fine dust filter on the Blizzard.
6. Miele Guard M1 Flex vs a 2,000 W bagged cylinder: the Bosch Series 4 comparison
The corded question is the same question with a cable. Most bagged cylinders sold in Lebanon print 2,000 or 2,200 W on the box; the Bosch Series 4 BGLS42230 is a typical one and Bosch publishes its specifications, so here they are next to the Guard M1 Flex, on published figures only.
| Miele Guard M1 Flex | Bosch Series 4 BGLS42230 | |
|---|---|---|
| Rated power | 890 W, about 4 amps, runs on a 5 amp line | 2,000 W (2,200 W on some listings), about 9 amps, trips a 5 amp line |
| Pick-up | best-in-class, flow-optimised airways, measured under IEC 62885-2 | not published as a measured figure |
| Dust retention | 99.99 percent stays inside the machine | not published |
| Bag change | HyClean Pure bag seals itself as you pull it out, touch-free | hygienic bag, self-sealing not stated |
| Filter | AirClean exhaust filter, optional HEPA 13 at 99.95 percent | HEPA hygienic filter, washable |
| Floorhead | AllTeQ with metal soleplate and rubberised rollers, for marble, tile and carpet | mechanical nozzle |
| Cable | one-tap rewind | 7 m cord, 10 m radius |
| Built to last | whole machine tested to 20 years of use by Miele | 10-year motor guarantee, terms apply |
| Made in | Bielefeld, Germany | motor technology made in Germany; assembly not stated |
| Service in Lebanon | Wakim Group, Saifi, Beirut: technicians, bags and filters in stock | ask the seller who repairs it and who stocks the bags |
Two thousand watts is a number for the box. Four amps is a number for your generator. The Guard M1 picks up more with less than half the electricity, seals the dust in when you change the bag, and is tested as a whole machine for twenty years rather than guaranteeing one part of it. In a Beirut apartment on a 5 amp line, the difference is not on the spec sheet. It is whether the vacuum cleaner starts.
7. Bagged or bagless
Bagged: lower price, larger capacity, the most hygienic change, and the quietest running; the HyClean Pure bags are stocked at the showroom and online, four for $20, each lasting about three months. Bagless: nothing to buy, see what you collected, empty daily if you want, at the cost of a filter to rinse. Our rule in Lebanon: bagged for big homes and allergy households, bagless for a compact flat and for people who vacuum every day. Both are made in Miele's own plant in Bielefeld, Germany, and tested to 20 years of use, which, for an appliance most people replace every three years, is the whole argument.
8. What the price buys, and what it costs over 18 years
A Miele Guard S1 Junior at $315, tested to 20 years of use, is $18 a year. A Triflex HX2 Cat and Dog at $849 is $47 a year, with the battery swappable so the machine does not die with its first battery. Add about $20 a year in bags or nothing for bagless, and a HEPA filter at $50 once a year for allergy homes.
9. One company, one phone number
Miele is sold and serviced in Lebanon by one company, us. Bags, filters, brushes and batteries for every model below are stocked in Beirut and on this site, which is the difference between a vacuum that lasts 20 years and one that is thrown away for a $5 part. Repairs are done by Miele-trained technicians from the showroom in Saifi, parts in stock about 90 percent of the time and the rest by DHL from Miele in 3 to 4 days, warranty 2 years, extendable to 7.

11. Before you buy
Count your floor types and the rugs on them. Note whether your generator line is 5 or 10 amps. Decide whether the machine lives in a cupboard or on a wall mount by the door. If anyone in the house has allergies, choose a HEPA model or add the HEPA filter. If you have parquet, add the Parquet Twister. Then come and hold one: a Triflex balanced in Comfort mode, a Guard pulled across the showroom floor, the click of the bag going in. Miele showroom, George Haddad Street, Saifi, Beirut. Frequently asked questions
What is the best vacuum cleaner in Lebanon?
For a Beirut apartment with tile and parquet, a Miele Triflex cordless: up to 60 minutes per charge, a swappable battery, corded-class suction and no dependence on the power cut, from $499. For a large home with carpets, a Miele Guard bagged cylinder from $315.
Does a vacuum cleaner work on a 5 amp generator subscription in Lebanon?
An 890 W Miele draws about 4 amps and runs on a 5 amp line. A 2,000 W vacuum draws about 9 amps and trips it. A cordless Miele does not need the line at all while cleaning.
Does a higher watt vacuum cleaner have more suction?
No. Watts measure electricity drawn, not dirt removed. Suction depends on sealed airways, the bag, the filter and the floorhead. The EU has banned vacuum cleaners above 900 W since 2017 because its tests found no link between watts and cleaning results. Miele's 890 W machines publish their pick-up under the IEC 62885-2 standard and keep 99.99 percent of dust inside.
Bagged or bagless vacuum cleaner?
Bagged for big homes and allergy households: larger capacity, touch-free self-sealing bags, about $5 a bag every three months. Bagless for compact flats and daily use: one-click emptying, no bags to buy.
Which vacuum cleaner is safe for parquet?
Any Miele with the Parquet Twister brush: soft natural bristles and a double swivel joint for floors that scratch easily. On cordless Triflex models the MultiFloor electrobrush adapts to the floor automatically.
Which vacuum cleaner for allergies?
The Blizzard CX1 Excellence or Triflex HX2 with a lifetime HEPA filter at 99.999 percent, or a Guard with the HEPA 13 exhaust filter that traps 99.95 percent of viruses, germs and particles.
How much does a Miele vacuum cleaner cost in Lebanon?
From $315 for the Guard S1 Junior to $849 for the Triflex HX2 Cat and Dog, with bags at $20 for four and filters and brushes stocked in Beirut. Delivered anywhere in Lebanon.
Miele Triflex or Dyson V15 in Lebanon?
Both run up to 60 minutes with a swappable battery. The Dyson counts the dust on a screen; the Triflex HX2 removes it with a HEPA Lifetime filter at 99.999 percent you never clean, in a 3in1 body that stands on its own. In Lebanon the Triflex is sold, serviced and stocked with batteries by Wakim Group in Beirut, with a warranty extendable to 7 years.
Miele Guard or a 2,000 W bagged vacuum cleaner?
Watts are electricity, not suction. The Guard M1 Flex picks up more from 890 W, about 4 amps, and runs on a 5 amp generator line; a 2,000 W cylinder draws about 9 amps and trips it. The Guard also seals its bag on change, keeps 99.99 percent of dust inside, and is tested as a whole machine to 20 years.
How long does a Miele vacuum cleaner last?
Miele tests its vacuum cleaners to 20 years of use. Spare bags, filters, brushes and batteries are stocked in Beirut, so a part never ends the machine.
