Washing machines in Lebanon: how to choose (2026 guide)

Most washing machines sold in Lebanon are built to be replaced. The retailers do not say it, but the numbers do: a $400 machine is engineered for about 2,500 hours of use, a Miele is tested to 10,000 hours, the equivalent of 20 years of family laundry. In a country where every replacement means a new delivery, a new installation, new teething faults and another two days without a machine, lifetime is not a luxury feature. It is the whole decision. This guide tells you what to look at, what each price buys, and why we are blunt about it: Wakim Group has sold and serviced Miele in Lebanon since 1981, we see the machines that fail and the ones that do not.

Unloading laundry from a Miele washing machine

1. Capacity: buy 9 kg unless you have a reason not to

Capacity is dry laundry weight. 8 kg covers one or two people. 9 kg is the right size for a Lebanese family: weekly bedsheets, towels, school uniforms in one load. 10 kg is for large households or anyone who refuses to send duvets and curtains out. Do not fear the bigger drum: with load recognition, a half-full 10 kg machine uses roughly what a full 8 kg machine uses. Under-sizing is the common mistake; it doubles your cycles, your water and your electricity.

2. Front-load. The question is settled

Top-loaders are cheaper and need no bending. That is where the list ends. A front-loader uses a third less water, spins at 1,400 rpm so clothes come out half-dry (which decides whether indoor drying works in a Beirut winter), cleans measurably better, and takes a dryer stacked on top, which in a Lebanese apartment is the difference between a laundry room and a laundry corner. Buy a top-loader only when the space physically cannot take a door swing.

3. Power: the machine you can actually run

A front-loader draws 1.8 to 2.4 kW with the heater on. On a 5 A subscription (about 1,100 W) that trips the breaker. The fix is the programme: a cold or 20 degree wash never switches the heater on, so the draw drops to the motor alone. Here the motor type decides everything. A cheap universal motor spikes at start-up and trips small generator breakers and solar inverters; an inverter motor ramps up smoothly. Miele's ProfiEco motor runs a cold wash on 5 A, a warm wash on 10 A, and holds the programme in memory through a power cut, resuming exactly where it stopped. Full model-by-model numbers for washers, dryers, dishwashers and fridges are on our page on running appliances on a generator or solar in Lebanon.

4. What separates a 15-year machine from a 7-year machine

Spin speed: 1,400 rpm, nothing less. Motor: brushless inverter, not universal. Drum: Miele's honeycomb drum floats laundry on a film of water so fabrics do not grind against drilled steel; it is the reason customers bring us 15-year-old machines for a bearing and nothing else. Counterweights: cast iron on a Miele, concrete or plastic composite on most machines under $1,500; it is why a Miele does not walk across the floor at 1,400 rpm. Dosing: TwinDos measures liquid detergent to the gram; overdosing is the main cause of grey whites, residue and dead heaters in Lebanon's hard water. Programmes: QuickPowerWash cleans a full 4 kg load in 49 minutes, which matters when your generator hours are the limit. Water: Miele load recognition takes 45 to 55 litres a cycle; when water arrives by truck, that saving is on every single wash for 20 years.

5. What each price tier really buys in Lebanon

TierPrice in LebanonBrands commonly soldBuilt forCost per year over 18 years
Entry$250 to $500Midea, Hisense, Haier, top-loaders5 to 8 years, universal motor, plastic tub2 to 3 replacements: $110 to $150 plus delivery and installation each time
Mid$500 to $1,200Samsung, LG, Beko, Ariston8 to 12 years, inverter motor, app1 to 2 replacements: $100 to $140
Premium$1,200 to $1,700Bosch Serie 6 and 8, Siemens10 to 13 years, plastic tub below Serie 81 replacement: $130 to $190
Long-life$1,711 to $3,057Miele W1tested to 20 years, cast iron counterweights, honeycomb drum, TwinDosno replacement: $95 to $170

Read the last column. A Miele WWA120 at $1,711 over 18 years is $95 a year. A $700 machine replaced twice in the same period is $117 a year before you count three deliveries, three installations and the weeks of nuisance in between. The cheap machine is more expensive. The premium machine is a Miele that you replace once. The only buyer who should not choose Miele is the one leaving the home within three years.

6. Miele vs Bosch: what the comparison sites do not say

Miele is sold and serviced in Lebanon by one company, us. Comparison sites call that a Miele weakness. In Lebanon it is the opposite.

A Miele in Lebanon gets repaired by one of six Miele-trained technicians, 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, with the genuine part in stock in Beirut about 90 percent of the time and the rest by DHL from Miele in 3 to 4 days. A full repair closes in 1 to 2 days. The warranty is 2 years, extendable to 7, from the same company that sold you the machine. That is not a weakness. That is one phone number for 20 years.

On the machines: below its top Serie 8, every Bosch washer has a plastic tub. Miele builds its own motors, its own electronics and its own drums, tests every model to 10,000 hours, and has done so since 1899. Choose Miele if the machine should outlive the kitchen.

8. Before you buy

Measure the space including the door swing. Note your generator amps and, if you have solar, the inverter kVA. Decide whether a dryer stacks on top now or later. Check drain height and water pressure at the laundry point; a roof tank with low pressure slows every brand. Then come and open the door, turn the dial and listen to the spin: a machine you will own for 20 years deserves ten minutes in person. Miele showroom, George Haddad Street, Saifi, Beirut. Frequently asked questions

What is the best washing machine in Lebanon?

For a machine you will keep, a Miele W1: tested to 20 years of use, serviced from Beirut with parts in stock, from $1,711. For a short stay or a rental, a mid-tier inverter machine from $500 is the sensible compromise.

Which washing machine works on a 5 amp generator in Lebanon?

Any inverter-motor front-loader on a cold programme, heater off. Miele W1 machines run cold washes on 5 A, warm washes on 10 A, and resume after a power cut.

Front-load or top-load for Lebanon?

Front-load. A third less water, 1,400 rpm spin, better cleaning and a dryer stacks on top. Top-load only when the space cannot take a door.

What size washing machine does a family of four need?

9 kg. It takes a week's bedsheets in one load and, with load recognition, costs no more to run half full than an 8 kg machine.

Is Miele worth it in Lebanon?

Yes if you keep the machine more than 5 years. Over 18 years a Miele costs $95 to $170 a year with no replacement; a $700 machine replaced twice costs about $117 a year plus three deliveries and installations.

Miele or Bosch?

Below its top Serie 8, Bosch uses a plastic tub. Miele builds its own drums, motors and electronics for 20-year build quality, with one dedicated service team in Lebanon: 6 technicians, 16/7, parts in stock, 1 to 2 day repairs, warranty extendable to 7 years.

How much does a Miele washing machine cost in Lebanon?

From $1,711 for the WWA120 8 kg to $3,057 for the WWK360 10 kg, delivered and installed anywhere in Lebanon.

Does a Miele washing machine restart after a power cut?

Yes. The programme is held in memory and continues where it stopped once power returns. No UPS needed for laundry.
