Fridges in Lebanon: how to choose (2026 guide)

A fridge in Lebanon works harder than a fridge anywhere in Europe. It runs through daily power cuts, often in a kitchen that reaches 35 to 40 degrees in August, on a line shared with a generator and a water pump, and it is the one appliance the household cannot do without for a single night. Most fridges sold here are specified for a German kitchen at 22 degrees with stable mains. This guide is about buying the one that is not. Wakim Group has sold and serviced Miele in Lebanon since 1981; we see which fridges come back to the workshop and which never do.

Fresh produce in the drawer of a Miele fridge

1. Size: buy for the weekly shop, not for the showroom floor

Fridge capacity is counted in litres of usable space. A couple is comfortable with 250 to 300 litres of fridge. A family of four that shops once a week needs 350 to 400 litres of fridge plus 100 to 200 litres of freezer; in Lebanon, where a cut can spoil a half-empty freezer faster than a full one, a larger freezer is not a luxury. Built-in units in a 178 cm niche give 250 to 300 litres; the built-in XXL format in a 194 cm niche gives 45 percent more, 382 litres, with the same furniture front. Freestanding units give 400 to 600 litres. Undersizing is the common mistake: an overfilled fridge blocks the air flow, warms up, and runs the compressor non-stop, which is exactly what you do not want on a generator.

2. Which type: built-in, freestanding, French door or a cooling wall

Built-in, fully integrated, hides behind your kitchen door and is the right answer for a designed kitchen. Freestanding gives the most litres per dollar and does not depend on a niche. French door gives a wide fridge above and two freezer drawers below, with an ice maker and chilled water on the top model. A cooling wall is a freestanding fridge and a freestanding freezer of the same height standing flush side by side, 399 plus 277 litres, for a large household or a second kitchen. The one rule that does not change with type: separate cooling circuits for fridge and freezer (Miele calls it DuplexCool). With one circuit the freezer air passes through the fridge, dries out the vegetables and carries the smell of fish into the butter.

3. Heat: the number nobody in Lebanon checks

Every fridge carries a climate class on its rating plate. Class N is specified for a kitchen up to 32 degrees, ST up to 38, T up to 43. A fridge rated N in a Beirut kitchen without air conditioning in August runs outside its specification: the compressor never stops, consumption doubles and the thermostat drifts. The Miele freestanding and built-in range we sell in Lebanon, French door models included, is class SN-T, rated to 43 degrees ambient. Ask the seller for the class before you ask for the price. If they cannot find it, that is your answer.

4. Power cuts: three numbers that matter

First, storage time in case of fault: how many hours the freezer holds minus 18 with the power off and the door shut. Miele freezers we sell hold 9 to 20 hours (14 hours on the FNS 4382 E, 20 hours on the KFN 4796 CD, 19 hours on the MasterCool). That is a normal Lebanese cut absorbed without a battery and without a single thawed item.

Second, consumption per year, because it sizes the battery. A Miele fridge-freezer at 185 kWh a year averages about 0.5 kWh a day, about 21 W continuous; a typical no-frost fridge-freezer sold in Lebanon runs 350 to 450 kWh. On a UPS or a solar battery, the Miele needs roughly half the storage for the same night, which means a smaller inverter, fewer batteries and a cheaper system for as long as you own it. A 1 to 1.5 kVA inverter with a battery covers a Miele fridge-freezer through a long cut; compressor start-up is brief and handled without trouble. Model by model figures are on our page on running appliances on a generator or solar in Lebanon.

Third, what happens when the generator switches. Cooling is the one category where we do recommend a UPS or a battery and inverter, because the fridge must keep running, not because the electronics are fragile: Miele cooling tolerates voltage swings well, and in our service records in Lebanon electricity-related faults on Miele fridges are rare even without a UPS. The Miele freezers we sell have temperature alarms, and most carry a power-failure indicator, so you know on return whether anything inside got warm.

5. Freshness: why a Miele fridge pays back at the market

Lebanese households shop at the market once or twice a week and expect the parsley, the mint and the tomatoes to survive to the next trip. Three things decide that. Humidity-controlled crisper drawers (DailyFresh) keep produce fresh up to twice as long. A near-zero, high-humidity zone (PerfectFresh Pro, or PerfectFresh Active with misting) keeps meat, fish, dairy and vegetables fresh up to five times longer; the built-in KS 7743 E has a 98 litre PerfectFresh Pro zone, a third of the appliance. Fan-assisted cooling (DynaCool) holds the same temperature on every shelf, so the top shelf is not three degrees warmer than the bottom. Add NoFrost, which ends defrosting for good, and a dry back wall, so nothing freezes to it, and a charcoal filter that removes up to 95 percent of odours. None of this is decoration. It is the difference between throwing away a third of the shopping and throwing away nothing.

6. What the price buys, and what it costs over 18 years

Three things separate a fridge that lasts from a fridge that gets replaced, and none of them is on the price tag. One cooling circuit or two: with one circuit the freezer air passes through the fridge, dries out the vegetables and carries smells across; with two, each compartment has its own climate. Climate class N or T: specified for 32 degrees, or for 43. Hours of storage in a cut: a freezer that holds 9 to 20 hours with the door shut, or one that is thawing by midnight. A Miele has all three on every fridge-freezer we sell, not only on the top of the range.

Then do the arithmetic the way we do it in the showroom. A fridge that lasts 6 to 9 years is bought three times in 18 years, with three deliveries, three installations and, somewhere along the way, a long cut in which a tired freezer lost its contents. A Miele KFN 4796 CD at $3,950 is bought once: $219 a year, no replacement, and about 200 kWh a year less than a typical no-frost fridge-freezer, on a battery half the size. The only buyer who should not choose Miele is the one leaving the home within three years.

7. One company, one phone number

Miele is sold and serviced in Lebanon by one company, us. Comparison sites abroad list that as a drawback. In a country where a fridge fault in August is an emergency, it is the reason to buy. A Miele fridge in Lebanon is repaired by one of six Miele-trained technicians, 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, with the genuine part in stock in Beirut about 90 percent of the time and the rest by DHL from Miele in 3 to 4 days. A full repair closes in 1 to 2 days. The warranty is 2 years, extendable to 7, from the same company that sold and installed the appliance. We still service Miele fridges in Beirut that were installed before 2010. One phone number, for as long as you own it.

Our pick for most families: the KFN 4796 CD, 485 litres, 34 dB, 20 hours of storage in a cut, on half the battery of the fridge it replaces. For a designed kitchen: the KFN 7934 D built-in XXL. Wine conditioning units from 18 to 229 bottles are on the wine cooler page.

9. Before you buy

Measure the niche or the floor space including door swing and the ventilation gap the manual asks for behind a freestanding unit. Note the kitchen's summer temperature and whether it is air conditioned. Note your generator amps and, if you have solar, the inverter kVA and battery kWh. If you want an ice maker or chilled water, you need a mains water point behind the fridge. Decide which way the door should open; most Miele doors are reversible. Then come and open one: the weight of the door, the glass shelves, the silence at 32 dB. Miele showroom, George Haddad Street, Saifi, Beirut. WhatsApp 76 444 664.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best fridge in Lebanon?

For a fridge you will keep, a Miele rated for 43 degree kitchens, with separate cooling circuits, 9 to 20 hours of storage in a power cut and about half the consumption of a typical no-frost fridge-freezer, from $2,621, serviced from Beirut. For a rental or a short stay, size and climate class still come first.

Which fridge is best for power cuts in Lebanon?

One with long storage time in case of fault and low consumption. Miele freezers hold 9 to 20 hours with the door shut, and a Miele fridge-freezer at 185 kWh a year needs about half the battery of a 400 kWh fridge for the same night.

Do I need a UPS for a fridge in Lebanon?

We recommend a battery and inverter or UPS of 1 kVA or more so the fridge runs through the cut. A Miele fridge-freezer uses about 0.5 kWh a day, so a small battery covers a long outage.

What climate class does a fridge need in Lebanon?

Class T or SN-T, rated to 43 degrees ambient, for any kitchen that is not air conditioned in summer. A fridge rated for 32 degrees runs outside its specification in a Beirut kitchen in August.

What size fridge does a family of four need?

About 350 to 400 litres of fridge and 100 to 200 litres of freezer. Built-in: the 194 cm XXL format gives 382 litres. Freestanding: 485 to 590 litres.

Built-in or freestanding fridge?

Built-in for a designed kitchen with furniture fronts; freestanding for the most litres per dollar and no niche. Both Miele ranges have separate cooling circuits, fan cooling and NoFrost.

How much does a Miele fridge cost in Lebanon?

Freestanding from $2,621 for the KS 4383 ED fridge to $8,884 for the KFFD 6867 French door; built-in from $3,147 for the KU 7035 D to $6,297 for the K 7797 C; MasterCool columns from $13,931. Delivered and installed anywhere in Lebanon.

Is Miele cooling worth it in Lebanon?

Yes if you keep the fridge more than 5 years. Over 18 years a Miele KFN 4796 CD costs about $219 a year with no replacement and uses about half the electricity of a typical no-frost fridge-freezer, on a battery half the size. One service company, parts in stock in Beirut, 1 to 2 day repairs, warranty extendable to 7 years.
